The existing building was “gutted” and partially demolished to accommodate new additions such as the new Secured Holding Area, Jury Rooms, a Sallyport, and a two-story Atrium. The project includes two superior courtrooms, jury rooms, judges, chambers, waiting rooms, holding cells, a law library, public spaces, and several offices. The project also includes a 3,000 s.f. “building shell” addition for a future courtroom and support spaces. The new Secured Holding Area and the Sallyport were constructed using CMU walls, a concrete roof and floor slabs, while the new Atrium was constructed with structural steel beams and concrete columns. The remainder of the facility was copmrised of timber construction, including complete new roof framing over the original roof framing to create more aesthetic rooflines and conceal HVAC equipment from view.
