Terminal 1, 2, & 3 Pedestrian Bridges, SFIA

San Francisco, CA

This project includes three pedestrian bridges, stairs, mezzanines and other structural modifications at terminals B, D, and F, at the San Francisco International Airport. The Pedestrian Bridges are constructed of exposed structural steel trusses supported on structural steel moment frame bents with pile foundations. Two bridges are 120 ft. single span structures with cantilever ends. The other bridge is a two-span structure, with a total length of 210 ft., and includes an automated moving walkway running along its longitudinal axis. Extensive structural modifications to the existing terminals were needed to permit the moment frame columns supporting the bridges to penetrate two levels of existing terminal framing in such a way as to isolate the columns from framing and permit independent seismic responses.
